WhenIwasfifteenIhadanimaginaryguardianangelatothetrytosketdays,IaskedfuidangthatsomedayIwouldbeafiandpaiifulasshereallyis。Whatthislittleybroughtmewasfaithintheworldandabeliefinmyself。
MyfaithsandbeliefshavebeenbadlystraiomicAgehascaughtusinaweboffear。Ourlivesseemsoimpermaahereissuchawasteofhumaial,ofthingsworthwhileinpeoplewhieverfindexpressiohinkit'samiraclethatanythiIbelievethatathreadofpermahrfromthebeginnihemostvaluableresiduewillsurvive。
Ibelieveeverybodyhasaosomehowspinhisowhreadofpermaheimpulseoflife。Somewouldcallitthedrivetoimmortality。Whateveritis,Ithinkitisgoodbecauseitgivespurposetoexistepurposeisnotenough。Artistsaresupposedtobenotoriouslyimpractical,butformyself,IfoundIhadtomakededplarytoythihatImustapproaotonlywithasensitivity,aperofbeauty,butwithafeelingofhumilityandreverence。
Mycreedasanartististolovelifeaheworldofpeople。Amanwhoworksandloveshisworkisoftenamandreaming,aofhisdreamswillfindformsandsymbolstoexpressthatdream。Itisawooething。Buttoday,Ithinkthereisalackofpowerofuni。Ifpeople,notjustartists,butallkindsofpeople,lyopesaheirsorrow,theirhappiheirfearsaheywoulddiscovertheyhadahthemainstreamoflifewhieversawbefore。
&imesfearandicismsogripourmindsthatweloseheart。ThenItrytorememberhowthegreatartistsoftheageshadthepowerofexpressivehepowertouoexalt,tomovetheobservertojoyortears,tostriketerroraheheartsofmen;notjusttodeerelyeain。
Ifandtheboundariesofmen'sthoughtsandbeliefs,wewilldiscoverweallhavecreativepossibilities—talentstomakeourselvesrealidentitiesasindividuals,withaholdohreadofimmortality。Ifweourselvestoit,Iamcedweshallfindthatthisisanaliveaingageofadventureaionfromwhiewbeautyandafinerworldwillemerge。
